Backwards Worship

Bill Carroll of Community Christian Church in Naperville, Illinois, was planning a service on repentance as a change of direction. Before worship they set up all the chairs in their worship center facing the back. People came in with no warning or explanation and sat down facing the rear of the worship space. The service began with everyone facing the wrong way. Then one of the leaders invited everyone to turn around and face the front as a symbolic act, reflecting their desire to repent. This was a vivid way to experience the message that they were about to hear.
