Racing Game

For a service asking the question “Who is in control of your life?” we developed the metaphor of sitting in the driver’s seat vs. sitting in the passenger seat. To kick off the service one of our pastors was sitting on the platform playing an auto racing computer game which was showing up on the projection screens behind him. He made a big show of driving the car around corners and speeding past his competitors. This was a vivid way of introducing the idea that we really like to have our hands on the wheel of our lives and do it our way! If you are not set up for video projection you could set the play up with their back to the congregation and put the image up on a computer monitor or TV. A no-tech way to communicate this metaphor is for the preacher to hold an actual steering wheel in his or her hands while talking about our desire for control.
