Sin Shredder

We often look for ways to help people experience the reality of atonement and forgiveness. After we had planned services where people nailed symbols of their sin to the cross in every imaginable way, we came up with this surprisingly meaningful way to make forgiveness more concrete. At a certain point in your service invite people to write out a prayer of confession on a 3 x 5 card (or something shaped symbolically to reflect your theme). Then during a time of worship singing, invite them to come forward to electric paper shredders positioned in appropriate places in your worship space where they can shred their confessions as a powerful symbol of God’s total forgiveness. When we first did this we were surprised how meaningful the sound of all those papers being shredded was to the whole congregation!
